We would like to give a huge THANK YOU to Peterson Farms for allowing our 5th Grade students to come by and pick pumpkins. Peterson Farms will also kindly be donating pumpkins for our Pumpkin Fun Day on October 17th (see attached flyer). Here is the next awesome recipient of our Olympic Torch this week, chosen by Megan Glenn. This is what Megan had to say: "I would like to pass the torch to Junior Montoya. Junior is always checking in and making sure things are running smoothly or if anything is needed. He keeps the auditorium usage on his radar to help keep our equipment up to date, in working condition, and making sure his services are available if needed. He is always willing to help with technology related needs during after hours or ensures staff are trained to use equipment needed for their event. Technology advances quickly and he keeps up to date with the latest gadgets to help update our technology for our District so we can all do our job a little easier. Thanks for all you do." Thank you to the staff, volunteers, and the Nyssa community for making the Fall Carnival a great and fun experience! And a special thank you to the Elementary PTO that works hard to put this event together each year. We can't wait for next year! In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, at the Elementary School, we had an amazing performance of a Traditional Mexican Dance. This was done by Jazilyn Hernandez from 3rd Grade. She performed in front of all the grade levels and did an awesome job! Thank you to Jazilyn and her mom for this performance! Celebrando el Mes de la Herencia Hispana, en la Primaria, tuvimos el honor de tener una presentación increíble de un Baile Tradicional Mexicano. Hecho por Jazilyn Hernandez del tercer grado. ¡Ella se presentó en frente de todos los grados e hizo un trabajo increíble! ¡Gracias a Jazilyn y a su mamá por su presentación!

Here is our awesome recipient of our Olympic Torch this week, chosen by Amy Anderson and Teresa Esplin. This is what Amy and Teresa had to say: "We choose to pass the torch to Megan Glenn. We appreciate Megan's hard work, dedication, and commitment! She goes above and beyond what is asked of her. There are a lot of extras she does behind the scenes that no one knows about. For example: picking up packages and personally delivering them, picking up meals and making sure every detail is taken care of. She is always willing to go out of her way to be helpful and is knowledgeable, finding better ways to do things that keep us running smoothly. For all these reasons and many more, we are passing the torch to her." Congrats Megan! Mark your calendars: On October 15th, we will be celebrating Ms. Reece and dedicating The Joleen Reece Court before the volleyball matchup against Ontario! We hope to see you there! We have received reports of a social media post circulating regarding threats toward neighboring schools. At this time, we have no reason to believe that Nyssa is one of the schools mentioned. However, we are closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with local law enforcement and will keep you updated should there be any changes. Unfortunately, these types of threats are part of a viral trend we are seeing across the country due to recent events. We want to assure you that we are taking this seriously and prioritizing the safety of our students and staff. If you or your students hear anything or have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your building administrators, counselors, teachers, or anonymously make a report to SAFEOREGON. This week we have two amazing recipients of our Olympic Torch, chosen by Jesse Melendez. This is what Jesse had to say: "I'd like to pass the torch to the two receptionists at the Elementary School, Amy Anderson and Teresa Esplin, who on a daily basis work together like a machine to keep the Elementary School running smoothly. They handle phone calls, ensure students are picked up and dropped off at the correct location, and care for students with mild injuries. Their teamwork, efficiency, and kindness create a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone." Congrats Amy and Teresa! Esta semana tenemos dos personas increíbles recibiendo nuestra Antorcha Olímpica, elegidas por Jesse Melendez. Esto es lo que Jesse dijo: "Me gustaría pasar la antorcha a las dos recepcionistas de la Escuela Primaria, Amy Anderson y Teresa Esplin, quienes diariamente trabajan juntas como una máquina para mantener la Primaria funcionando sin problemas. Today on Patriot Day, our Elementary School honored the lives lost and the brave first responders of 9/11. They had our amazing Nyssa First Responders attend their Patriot Day Assembly, which was designed and put together by our 5th Grade Leadership Students and Mr. Pratt. We thank all our First Responders for their courage and skills to keep us safe. They protect us in times of need and serve our community. You are always the real heroes! We want to say, "Thank you!" Hoy en el Día del Patriota, nuestra Escuela Primaria honró las vidas perdidas y a los valientes primeros respondientes del 11 de septiembre (9/11). Tuvieron a nuestros increíbles Primeros Respondientes de Nyssa en su Asamblea del Día del Patriota, que fue diseñada y organizada por nuestros Estudiantes de Liderazgo de Quinto Grado y el Sr. Pratt. He definitely goes above and beyond for our district. He stays on top of things and has our school district looking great!" Congrats Jesse! We are excited to share our first recipient of our Olympic Torch: Congratulations to Shane Pratt, our Nyssa Elementary principal! Shane has started off the year strong hosting a "Bullpup Talk" the second day of school, to engage with families and share information about our Elementary School. He is eager to get to know and get involved with our community members and families. We admire his commitment to our Bulldog community and how hard he is working to help everyone feel involved and welcome at our Elementary School! Congrats Shane! Estamos felices de anunciar a la primera persona recibiendo nuestra Antorcha Olímpica: ¡Felicidades a Shane Pratt, nuestro director de la Primaria de Nyssa! Nyssa High School Back to School Night : TOMORROW (8-15) from 5:00-7:00 PM. It is an excellent opportunity to pick up your Chromebook textbooks, meet your teachers, and drop off your school supplies. We look forward to seeing everyone! Fall practices will start on Monday August 19th. Sports paperwork can be picked up at the HS school office and needs to be returned to the office prior to starting practice.
