Hello Families of our Bullpups,
Thank you for your continued support as we continue to increase student literacy in both English and Spanish at Nyssa Elementary. My first year here in Nyssa is in the books. I want to let you know that Nyssa Elementary School is on the pathway to doing great things! We can do more together than individually.
Here are just a few of the highlights of this past year.
Learned how to navigate a 4 day school week.
PTO worked tirelessly to support fun activities to build community with Carnival, Christmas gifts, and so much more.
Backpacks with school supplies and lots of books were given away to students this year.
Spirit Week(s) with dress up and promotion of school spirit created a fun atmosphere.
Attendance of students was up 2% all year to 93.36%
Veterans Day assembly and spirit assemblies cooperating with Middle and High school students kept the student community excited about school and being here.
Student behavior reduced the number of referrals to the office by about 40 major referrals, with Character Strong implementation.
Student achievement data, we almost met the state average in Reading (ELA), but we exceeded the state average in Math, with Reveal Math implementation.
Teachers and staff, with the great efforts of the students, are celebrated monthly this year to create a positive culture of learning for all.
Now that we are into summer, here are some suggestions for keeping your children engaged in learning and healthy eating for the summer. Of course there needs to be time for family and play. Please be safe!
Reading a book with your child or having them read to you 15 minutes a day will help increase their vocabulary and comprehension. Create the love of reading. Access the National Center for Improving Literacy at https://improvingliteracy.org/index.html Do fun math activities to help your child learn to count, add/subtract, and do multiplication. Utilize free Khan Academy at https://www.khanacademy.org/
